Embracing shadows

This series was captured in Montréal between 2020 and 2023, during a period of immersion in street photography.

The pursuit of deep shadows and sharp shafts of light gave rise to minimal yet evocative images, where human figures appear as fleeting silhouettes within an almost abstract urban space. Architecture, with its lines, surfaces, and textures, is not merely a backdrop but an active, central element of each frame, structuring and guiding the composition. Expanses of profound shadow, by isolating subjects and amplifying the tension between light and darkness, render emptiness an essential component that defines the rhythm of the image.

These photographs embody a personal way of observing the city: not as a mere setting, but as a living organism in constant transformation, sculpted by light and traversed by ephemeral presences.

How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow?
I must have a dark side also If I am to be whole.
